As many of you know, I’m a former US Army Tanker and continue to love tanks and tank crews. Recently I’ve become part of an organization that is dedicated to supporting Tankers in America and Israel and furthering the special relationship between the two groups.
This has taken up a bunch of my time lately and impacted my posting here. My apologies :-(
The name of the organization is The American-Israeli Tanker Fellowship. My co-founders, apparently, think I should be one of the two co-chairs.
In starting the process of becoming an official organization, we have been given the chance to hold a fundraiser for the group by Brigadier General (Ret.) Avigdor Kahalani, who commanded the 77th Armoured Battalion in that fateful struggle.
In 1973, the Yom Kippur War, there were many acts of heroism and sacrifice. I think the battle for the Golan Heights, and in particular the Valley of Tears, has always been of interest to me since I first read of it in Chaim Herzog’s “The Arab-Israeli Wars”.
Now we have an opportunity to share with people a book written by General Kahalani, “The Heights of Courage: A Tank Leader’s War On The Golan”. The book will be autographed by the General with a personal inscription, if desired.
This fundraiser will be to raise funds to establish the group as a non profit organization officially, in the US, and to work towards our goals of fostering connections between tankers in both of our countries. When possible, we still intend to organize a tour to Israel focused on IDF armor history, and a reciprocal visit to the US for Israeli tankers at Ft Benning.
The cost for the book, personally inscribed by Gen. Kahalani, will be $30 plus the shipping. It's available in English or Hebrew. If you are inside Israel it will be shipped direct, if in the US we will ship the individual orders once the bulk shipment gets to us.
If you have an interest, please complete this google docs form, which will go to our Treasurer with your contact info, desired number of copies, and what personal inscription you would like. ( Don't get too long-winded! )
No money needed yet until we finalize the order - plan is to get these to you by early December. We will invoice when we are ready to collect funds. Please post any questions below!
And yes, there will be more about American and Israeli tankers, not just a beg for $$$
Got on the list
